Gong Chun

This shape of teapot was initially made by a Gong Ming Chun. He was a servant of a scholar during the Ming dynasty. When accompanied his master to study in the Jinsha temple near Yixing, a monk taught him to make clay teapots. On the temple grounds, he was fascinated by a burl on an old Ginkgo tree. And so he decided to make a teapot resembling the shape and pattern of the burl.

Until today, this shape of teapot remains immensely popular. While many Yixing artists are making their own Gong Chun teapot, carrying the spirit of the artist forward.
